A random little thing- Holiday gifts for those you love/tolerate

Before we begin, I propose an idea. For all of my posts in the festive season, I propose a song that should be listened to on loop while reading the article. My hope is that this will enhance the reading experience but for all I know it could turn out to be total crap. Regardless, here's my first choice. Seeing as we're now just about in December, this calls for some "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas"

So, the festive season is upon us and you may now be starting to worry about what to get that special person. I've had my gifts planned out like victims of a well organised serial killer for months now but some of you may not. And I'm pretty sure we can all agree, no one is going to appreciate you buying them Birdemic again and saying "Hey, it's a joke gift, get it?" That's where I come in. Being someone who buys presents, I understand the kind of markets to be reached and while I'm catering to stereotypes here, they're pretty safe bets. Now, let's go get your friends some presents!

The Film Geek- A Netflix subscription
www.netflix.com

As a self professed film nerd, the gift of Netflix has been a beautiful gift, one that has helped enlighten me to a load of films that I know I should have watched and now can. It's helped me discover superb films like Donnie Darko and threaten me with pieces of shit like Movie 43. It is now apparently a hobby so that's good news for my CV. It also has a lot of great TV on there. House of Cards is basically if a Film was made into TV and David Fincher executively produces it, so I'd just go ahead and watch it now if I were you.

The Comic Book Geek- Guardians of the Galaxy on Blu-Ray
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Guardians-Galaxy-DVD-Chris-Pratt/dp/B00IXGU6LG/ref=sr_1_2?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1414270056&sr=1-2&keywords=guardians+of+the+galaxy
Guardians of the Galaxy was probably one of the best films to come out this year and really did justice to the source material (I've been told). Almost everyone saw it and personally, I would love to watch it again. And again. And again. Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier would also be a wise buy due to it's brilliance but Guardians is better for my money.

The Collecter- Relevant Funko Pop figures
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_9?url=search-alias%3Dtoys&field-keywords=funko+pop+vinyl+figures&sprefix=funko+pop%2Ctoys%2C281&rh=n%3A468292%2Ck%3Afunko+pop+vinyl+figures
Funko Pop have been making figuirines for various bits of pop culture for quite a while. They take  popular characters (such as this ghostbusters one or a Vincent Vega one that I own) and make them into little adorable characters. They all look good and aren't too unreasonably priced. And even better, you're almost certainly going to find something that that special person likes. From Adventure Time to Sons of Anarchy, Pulp Fiction to Frozen, good luck choosing.

The Gamer- The Master Chief Collection
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Halo-Master-Chief-Collection-Xbox/dp/B00I9WV4OM/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1414270165&sr=1-1&keywords=halo+master+chief+collection
The Halo series of video games is one of the most critically acclaimed and successful franchises of this generation. And this is proving to be an excellent collection. It contains: four of the best FPS's ever made all remastered in 1080p and updated soundtracks, completely intact multiplayer with all the maps from all the games, an early look at the Halo TV series "Nightfall" and (most excitingly) access to the Halo 5 beta. Sure, it's only on Xbox and these aren't new games but they are some of the best FPS's ever made and worth a look. It's also only 40 quid. For four excellent games, a TV show and a beta, you can't get better bang for your buck.

The TV Geek- Breaking Bad boxset
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Breaking-Bad-Complete-Bryan-Cranston/dp/B00E3R33H8/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1414270193&sr=1-1&keywords=breaking+bad+complete+box+set
Breaking Bad is the best show ever made and I don't care if that should be an opinion. It is acted to perfection, directed with finesse and written sublimely. Yeah, it's on Netflix but by buying the boxset you 1. Support the show 2. Have the whole show and extras to watch whenever, wherever you want and 3. You can now force your Netflix shunning friends to watch the greatest show ever made. Now there is no reason for anyone to not watch/rewatch the rise of Walter White from Chemistry teacher to the ultimate heartless badass: Heisenberg.

The Sarcastic Bastard who irritates you sometimes but also makes you laugh- A Charlie Brooker book
http://www.amazon.co.uk/I-Can-Make-You-Hate-ebook/dp/B008QO91L6/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1414270230&sr=1-1&keywords=charlie+brooker
Charlie Brooker is the ultimate cynic. He basically hates everything, enjoys sitting inside on his own playing video games and he is bloody hilarious. He has a once a year type show on BBC 2 called Weekly Wipe which is consistnetly the funniest thing on TV for the six weeks it's on. And he also has these books. Be aware, they are basically just a compilation of his articles from the Guardian so if you read those, you won't find anything new here. But if you were a toddler when most of these were written like I am and you can't get enough of this grumpy and frequently laugh out loud funny cynic, you can't go much wrong with these books.

The Cat Lover- Grumpy cat book
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Grumpy-Cat-Book-ebook/dp/B00CXAAG6I/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1414270258&sr=1-1&keywords=grumpy+cat
Look, this is filler. I'm trying to branch out and consider various types of people. Not everyone is a fan of films or video games. You, the reader, evidently are otherwise you wouldn't be reading the elaborate collection of words that I call my blog. But you'll know someone, someone who's a nightmare when buying gifts for. And let's face it, the comedy/tacky shirt is just you showing them you don't care enough about them to tell them you don't care. That's why you go for the comedy/tacky book. This particular one has that cat from the internet. You know, the one who looks grumpy all the time. Isn't that cute? And now there's a caption with something that sounds angry. Crikey, this is a laugh a minute this one.

The Teenage Girl- Any John Green book
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Paper-Towns-John-Green-ebook/dp/B004M8S2X8/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1414270274&sr=1-1&keywords=paper+towns
If you're a parent reading this and happen to have a teenage daughter and you just don't know what to get her anymore, fear not. I have a solution. Does your daughter spend too much time glued to a screen? Do you want to get her something that she'll enjoy and pull her away from that gosh darn iPhone? Dr Henry (I don't have a medical degree, it's just for the purpose of the joke) prescribes some John Green books. Your daughter may have recently gone to see/read The Fault in our Stars. If she enjoyed it (chances are she will) get her some books by that same author. My personal favbourite is Paper Towns but Looking for Alaska is a great choice as well. Mr Green has five books including The Fault in our Stars and all are a good read. I should know, I read all of them. But if you want to get your special little sunshine something that won't melt her eyes but will melt her heart (in a nice way, not a fatty food way), you can't go much wrong with John.
