A random little thing- The best local multiplayer games out there

Image
With the creation of video games came a social revolution. We got a new art form and one through which we could create our own stories and interact with. They are a form of entertainment that we can experience with our friends in a way that movies or tv just don't allow. Which is what I'm celebrating here. Basically, if you're hanging out with your friends or having some kind of get together, stick these on and the good times will just roll. Cards against humanity Okay, this one is kind of cheating because it's not a video game. However, anyone who has played this game will attest that it is one of the funniest, most disturbing and surprisingly revealing games you can play. The basic concept goes a bit like this: there is a black card in the middle of the table and using the white cards you have on your hand, you must create the funniest answer possible. Sure, it may not sound so great but with a good group of people, there will be tears of laughter. Just make su

Top 7- Musical Moments in Film

Image
This a new series I'm going to try out. Now you may be asking "why only seven, why not 10?". Well, because everyone does top ten lists, seven is a great film and I don't think I could fill a whole lot of lists with ten strong answers. Now, for my first top seven, I'm doing a subject close to my heart: the use of music in films. I think it's one of the most powerful and under appreciated things in films and it can make the difference between a decent scene and one that blows your mind. So, let's get started. Also, there may be spoilers, but those will all be clearly marked. Still, you have been warned. 7. Toy Story- You got a friend in me Toy story is, at least for my generation, a childhood defining movie. The whole trilogy is wonderful and probably one of the finest trilogys ever made. One of the (many) great things about the films is the soundtrack. It put Randy Newman on the map and made him royalties for a good few years and is just a lovely hea

10/10 would recommend- Super Smash Bros for 3DS Demo

Image
3DS owners rejoice as the game no one ever expected to come to handheld consoles is weeks away. Nintendo are also excited to be receiving our money, so much so that the demo for Smash Bros is up today. This demo is going to help a lot of owners decide if they will buy Smash Bros or buy Smash Bros and regret it. Judging by the demo, people will be happy. Specifically, Nintendo will be happy because this will make a shit ton of money. It is your typical Smash Bros gameplay on an untraditional console and if that isn't enough to make all you 3DS owners drop everything and download this (yes, all 1 of you), I don't know what will. Because it's bloody brilliant. The demo is pretty bare really, because it only has five characters and one stage but that's all it needs. For a start, Nintendo don't want to release everything in a demo. I for one, would rather have limited things and unlimited time than unlimited things for a limited time. You play as either Mari

Free to Nay- Unturned

Image
Before we start, an introduction to this series. It will be me talking about free to play games and more often than not, they will be bad.(Hence the title) They're not getting reviews because they're generally frequently updated and would also tarnish the sanctity of reviews. A few weeks back, my friends told me a horror story. The story was about this game called Unturned. Legend had it that the game was so bad, so awful, so unbelievably unplayable it drove many to commit suicide. But then comes the scariest bit of the story: this game exists. As such, it felt only appropriate that I spend some of my well earned holiday researching this myth. I went to the front page of steam and, sure enough, there it stood. Looking at me with it's unflinching eyes. Here I was, looking into the eyes of a killer. Terrified. Still, I thought "Hell to it" and downloaded it anyway. And this brings me to a positive: the game doesn't take up much space. However, I soon found ou

A fairly topical matter- 2014 ain't over yet

We are now in the autumn. So many people have written the year off already. You fools. We still have much to come this year in the world of entertainment. So here's me, telling you what's still to come and what you should be watching out for. Also, if I haven't mentioned something it's going to be because it either doesn't interest me, there wasn't enough room or I simply forgot it. So don't hate in the comments. Movies Gone Girl This film only really appeared on my radar recently but became a must see instantly for the fact that it was an adaptation of a  brilliant book (I'm told, but I'm to read it soon) and it's a David Fincher film. David Fincher is my one of my favourite directors and one who has proved he can do thrillers. Or any other genre for that matter, but thriller is a specialty. If the quality of the trailer is anything to go by, this will be a film that once the intensity begins, it will build and build and build until the

Video game Review- Psychonauts

Image
Note: played on my decent laptop with an Xbox controller Psychonauts is a game that was released 9 years ago and at times, it shows. But at other times its a timeless game that I could play over and over and never get bored. If only it could choose between one or the other. Because, you see, this is a very difficult review for me to write. It's a game that I should love and often do but at other times I hate and want to never play again. So, I'll start with some of the good stuff. The game is famed for being hilarious. And in that aspect it succeeds. The game has many brilliant laugh out loud moments, right from the get go and they rarely get old. It brings real personality to the story of Raz, a boy who escapes to a summer camp for psychonauts (children with psychic powers). In fact, the whole game is so beautifully full of personality. It's knowingly cheesy, surprisingly dark and has wonderful characters (Ford is a particular favourite of mine). And when it w
