Top 7- My most anticipated TV of 2015

Image
Last song, I promise. Seeing as it's New Years Eve, let's end it on a classic. You can't beat it, it's Auld Lang Syne. Just be glad I don't subject you to Gangnam Style like I was in New York. First song I heard in the New Year. Thanks Obama. Well, to TV now. This has been a hard list because it's basically made up of new seasons of old shows and some new shows that could be good. This time last year, there's no way I could have predicted how great Fargo was. So this list may be totally different to the list if best TV at the end of the year. But it's worth talking about anyway. 7. Doctor Who Series 9 I wish this could be higher up the list but I'm a little bit worried after the junk that was the Christmas episode. I just came away from it feeling disappointed and quite worried for the future of this show. Still, I'm hoping that this was just a blip and that the next series will be just as great, maybe better, than the last. I'll che

Before you say anything, it's still December. I'm allowed Christmas songs okay, just give me this. Now, this is almost the end of my Christmas songs and this is more about winter than Christmas anyway. Let's listen to "Let it Snow" It's that post Christmas, pre New Years time when you're in a permanent bloated state and all you can do is waddle around, watch TV and then go back to bed some more. So why not think on this list of films that you can expect to see by this time next year? You'll enjoy it. And then, you can descend back into your food coma before New Years arrives and you bring yourself back into the cycle of alcohol, food and sleep deprivation. Because seriously, this is going to be an awesome year for films. 7. Kingsman: The Secret Service If you're anything like me, you love the film Kick-Ass. It was rude, violent and just incredibly awesome. And after Kick-Ass 2 was unanimously slammed, I've been looking for something to

Festive Review Special- Die Hard (or Yippee Ki Yay Father Christmas)

Image
Today's Christmas song is special because it's my favourite and it's actually Christmas. It also fit's because it really shouldn't be a Christmas song given the lyrical content and neither should Die Hard given the... Well, you know. It's Die Hard. Well, Christmas is when this comes out. I'm writing this in early December and you'll no doubt be reading it after waking from your food coma on Boxing Day. Regardless, here is Fairy tale of New York, performed on a rooftop in actual New York. Now, enjoy your festivities and may your turkey not give you the shits for the next few days. Having grown up after the 90s, I only know Die Hard as a film franchise that is pretty much a parody of itself. It has action scenes that are preposterous, is largely uncharming and contains nowhere near the right amount of violence. That's why I was surprised to learn of the love people have for the original film and even more surprised when I realised it's an e

A fairly topical matter- The 2014 Quite Nerdy Awards

Seeing as Christmas is this week (I know, how exciting!) and we're yet to get sick of it, this week is brought to you by ridiculous and incredibly impractical ideas. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you "I wish it could be Christmas everyday". Although if you watched the Black Mirror Christmas special, you won't enjoy it anymore. I guarantee it. The end of year is nigh and school is out (for now). And what a year it's been. We've twerked, tweeted and tempted the end of humanity with the Harlem Shake but we've also had some incredible TV, Films and Video Games turn up and blow our minds. This list is not comprehensive, it's just my opinions about things I saw/played this year. Also, this list has some negative awards dotted around like turd sprinkles on a chocolate cake. Or sultanas in a Christmas cake, seeing as it is the season to be jolly. TV Sherlock- Biggest tease (Stephen Moffat) Starting with one of the first shows to come out this year and i

Top 7- Festive movies

You're almost certainly sick of it now, but here's this week's song. One that is some how a classic without being particularly jolly and about an army. It's also one of five songs my best friend knows and will sing all year round. So Ben, this one's for you. Stop the Cavalry Christmas is fast approaching and people are excited. Unfortunately for me, it's a time where my cynicism is not even slightly welcomed. What this means for me is that I have to show the side of me that cares about stuff and is fully willing to admit crying at Toy Story 3. So snuggle up with a mug of hot chocolate, get under your blanket and prepare to see a top Christmas film list without Love Actually on it. Because it's not a good film. It's just not, okay. 7. Home Alone Let's start with a classic. Home Alone is the original christmas hit that spawned a very unwanted franchise, with one sequel actually worth mentioning but more on that later. If nothing else, it'

Review- In Bruges

Image
This week, your christmas song is Jingle Bell Rock. Like the film, it's classy and very stylish. Unlike the film, no c-bombs are dropped. It's the Christmas season and to get into the spirit I decided to watch a gory and dark film that has an average of 1.18 f-bombs a minute. But it's set around Christmas so that's what counts, am I right? No? Okay then. In that case I'll just sit in the corner adoring the hell out of this dark, hilarious and damn near perfect movie. Because that's the Christmas spirit right there. In Bruges is an action comedy set in the village of Bruges in Belgium. Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson (Ray and Ken respectively) play assassins and are sent here because Ray has messed up a job. This is all we know at the start and their brief is to keep a low profile which consists of sightseeing and staying in their shared hotel room. For Ken, it's bliss. For Ray, it's hell. It's the typical buddy cop set-up but that

A random little thing- Holiday gifts for those you love/tolerate

Image
Before we begin, I propose an idea. For all of my posts in the festive season, I propose a song that should be listened to on loop while reading the article. My hope is that this will enhance the reading experience but for all I know it could turn out to be total crap. Regardless, here's my first choice. Seeing as we're now just about in December, this calls for some "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" So, the festive season is upon us and you may now be starting to worry about what to get that special person. I've had my gifts planned out like victims of a well organised serial killer for months now but some of you may not. And I'm pretty sure we can all agree, no one is going to appreciate you buying them Birdemic again and saying "Hey, it's a joke gift, get it?" That's where I come in. Being someone who buys presents, I understand the kind of markets to be reached and while I'm catering to stereotypes here, they'r

Review- Doctor Who Series 8

Image
Peter Capaldi, I'm so sorry I ever doubted you. You are brilliant and I can barely even see you as Malcolm Tucker anymore. You made this series of Doctor Who one of the strongest ever and for that, I'm glad. Sure, there may have been low points and totally polarizing episodes but there have been some great ones and you were always great as the Doctor. And I sincerely mean that, from the bottom of my heart. So, this series of Doctor Who has had a lot of things working against it from the start. We had a brand new Doctor, a companion who we had yet to really get into the storyline of and a tone that had lodged itself in the uncomfortable gap between goofy and dark. But you could from the very start of the series, series 8 would be different. We instantly got a darker tone and saw the Doctor questioning if he was actually a good man and while we also saw a giant dinosaur stomping around Victorian London, it was pretty serious. Make no mistake, there was humour but it was all

Top 7- Musical moments in gaming

Image
The final of my music moment Top 7 trilogy. I'm going for a Toy Story 3 instead of Godfather 3 with this one because gaming is one medium where music is both important and awesome to listen to. As I shall show with the following 7 tracks. 7. SSX Tricky- It's tricky Starting off with a song that is pretty great in it's own right, this was the theme tune to one of the best sports games I've ever played. It perfectly suits the game with it's cheesy, yet effortlessly stylish elements that mean you can be playing anything while listening to this and still feel like a badass. It just so happens that this song is best listened to while shredding down a slope on a snowboard looking at the ridiculous get up your character was wearing. It's a song that's pretty ridiculous for a ridiculous game that go together ridiculously well. 6. Rhythm Thief and the Emperor's Treasure- Samba Carnival Two of my favourite things are rhythm games and the Professor Layt
