A fairly topical matter- Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor

Image
A new series of Doctor Who is always a big event in the nerd world. But a new series with a new Doctor: we're talking major stuff now. So what was he like? How does he compare? Is he really too old? Hush, hypothetical reader. I'm going to talk about my opinions on Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor in this very post. Who could have seen that one coming? Also, this isn't an episode review. Although I will do a review of the whole series at the end. But this is a pressing matter. I'm going to take you back to a bit over a year ago. There was a big televised announcement where the 12th Doctor would be announced in a fashion only TV really does. And so, the big moment arrives. "And the 12th Doctor is..." at which point Malcolm Tucker from The Thick of It walks on. Many were confused, some were angry, some had conflicting emotions. At which point, we flash forward to Friday 22nd of August. The series premiere is tomorrow. People are anxious. There are multiple is

10/10 would recommend- Double Action: Boogaloo (Half life 2 mod)

This is a series that will not stick to my usual schedule. It won't replace the post that week, you'll get a bonus one. But this is an occasional thing where I will talk about something I played/watched/maybe even read that got my attention and deserves yours. This time it's a mod for Half Life 2. Console fan boys can leave now, this is PC's time to shine. Double Action: Boogaloo is a mod that is ridiculous. You realize this after reading the title for the first time. Yes, it is actually called that. Now, how to describe this game. The closest I can get is by saying that if The Matrix and Max Payne were at a party one night, got very drunk  and made an increasingly poor series of decisions, this game would exist in 9 months time. And I am glad we live in a world where this game exists and I can use that as a metaphor and you're just going to accept it. In case my description there was poor, this is a multiplayer game in which you must run around, do the

To polish a turd- Dexter Season 8

I'm going to start by actually explaining what this series of posts will be, seeing a the title doesn't give lots away. It's a series where I will suggest some ways in which awful things (generally that could of or should have been good) could have been improved. In this case, it's the final series of Dexter. Also, this series will be full spoilers. That's FULL SPOILERS . Right, let's get on. Just to clarify, we're now talking FULL SPOILERS  for all of Dexter, not just season 8. And I do want to clarify one thing. I'm not tearing this show a new arsehole because it's bad. I'm doing it because I loved it and it deserved a better end. I'm tearing it a new arsehole because it's consipated, not because it brings me joy to. I'm helping. I'm going to start off with a problem that was there through the whole show. Don't get me wrong, I loved most of it but there was one problem that was always there: poorly written female c

Double Review Spectacular- Guardians of the Galaxy and Dawn of thePlanet of the Apes

Last week I went to see two films. One was a film I had been anticipating since the first trailer. The other I was going along to see because I had nothing better to do. Both blew me away. These are my reviews for Guardians of the Galaxy and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Guardians of the Galaxy  This was a film that, since the first trailer, I was championing. It looked amazing. Marvel had kind of been on a streak of awesome films and this looked pretty promising. A film that had a perfect concoction of badass action scenes, humour and an awesome 80s soundtrack. Where could the film go wrong? And you know what? It didn't. Everything it did, it did with confidence, swagger and bravado that new film properties rarely exhume. I'll start by talking about the characters. The main protagonist here is Starlord (played by Chris Pratt). As a boy he was abducted and taken around the galaxy. When we meet him, he's after this round McGuffin that powers the story. And from the s

A good place to start

This is essentially my first blog post. Sure, I did that intro one on Sunday but that was housekeeping. This one is me, this is what I want my blog to be. So be a bit kind about it. So, I was contemplating what my first blog should be about. I haven't watched any films recently (apart from Four weddings and a Funeral but I don't want to talk about that and you don't want to hear about that). I'm watching Guardians of the Galaxy and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes tomorrow (Wednesday for those late readers) so maybe I'll do a big double review to christen the blog. But today, I have nothing. So I'm going to introduce myself or rather, my interests. So I'm going to talk about some of my favourite things in the world of TV, film and video games. Because, well, it is what this blog is about. Films My all-time favourite film is Fight Club. I love it because of many reasons. For a start, it's just enjoyable at a base level. There is something satisfying on

What to expect from this blog (for the close future)

This is a blog I'm starting. Reading this you'll have some questions and I'll answer them now, before I get to the exciting stuff. But first things first. My name is Henry, I'm 14 (damn near 15) and I'm making this blog because of a few reasons. 1. I enjoy writing. That may sound strange but writing stuff that entertains people makes me happy 2. People have told me I write in an entertaining and amusing manner. At the very least, the internet needs to know it's missing me 3. I'd like to be a journalist one day. Not like a gossipy one or one who writes articles about how breathing in oxygen gives us cancer so we should all switch to breathing carbon dioxide, but someone who reviews and talks about films, tv and games. Which is why this blog exists. On this blog, I'm going to talk and/or review tv, films and games. I plan to do it at least once a week but with my GCSE's this year (for you non-brits,  it's a series of exams done at the end of ou
