Opinion Piece- Just bring on 2017 already

So, we're in Autumn now, September has basically gone and one of the most disappointing Summers in recent memory has walked out on us, even if it's disgusting scent still lingers. Really, what this has left me saying is that this year has little else left to offer us and we should just move on to 2017 early, as I'll explain with three handy paragraphs. As I briefly mentioned in the opening, this year has been pretty lackluster for films. The Summer box office season has brought some films that disappointed critically and commercially. Some films, like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 managed to do both and be generally awful. Plus, the only films major studios wanted to put out were prequels, sequels or reboots and no one wanted a good 80% of them. Even the smaller films haven't been perfect. There have been great films like 10 Cloverfield Lane, The Nice Guys and the utterly wonderful The Nice Guys but by this time last year, there were far more great films. And really,

Top 7- Films with numbers in the title

Yes, I know, it seems like an awful list but Magnificent Seven comes out this week, nothing else is happening and as I started to think about this list, I came up with a few really good films so I'm going ahead with it and hoping something actually happens soon or this blog is really going to go to shit. Anyway, list time, there's some pictures and films whose numbers just come from being a sequel are disqualified because that would make this list even worse, please enjoy. 7. (500) Days of Summer The rom-com for those who don't like rom-coms, (500) Days of Summer is a film that will make you utterly fall in love with Joseph Gordon Levitt. As the film itself says, it's not so much a love story as it is a story about love but that doesn't mean you're not going to have a wonderful time with it. There's also a wonderful indie soundtrack to enjoy. The numbers in this film refer (as you may have guessed) to the amount of days the two spend together, althou

Opinion Piece- Should Fight Club 2 exist?

Image
I don't usually talk about books on my blog but being basically the definitive Fight Club worship spot and I had a lot I wanted to talk about after reading it. So this will seem obvious but spoiler alert for Fight Club 2, the graphic novel, and prepare to talk about a really weird book and whether it should exist. The first thing to consider when asking if Fight Club 2 should exist is the story and what it adds to the existing Fight Club story. To clarify, it carries on from the novel which ends differently to the film although at the end of the novel, it rewrites the ending in a way that makes sense. The novel Fight Club ends similarly with the narrator shooting himself but the new ending explains that this bit was a battle in the narrator's head, not actually real. It sounds like a cop out but is actually quite powerful on paper and explains why a bullet to the head didn't actually kill the main character, a huge problem many have with the ending. The main story of

Review- Sausage Party

Image
Sausage Party is exactly the kind of film that the poster makes it look like. It's an animated Pixar-esque film only no kid should ever see it. The story is interesting and is based off a simple idea. Everything you can buy in a supermarket is actually sentient, although the humans can't see them do that. The characters all want to be picked up by the humans and taken to the promised land (outside the supermarket). However, there's trouble as some characters start to question the morals of the humans and question whether what they've been told is actually true. Being a comedy, the story is basically there to take us from comedy set piece to comedy set piece and provide some good setups for jokes but it works as a slight parody of the Pixar style of storytelling and a way of moving the film along. The voice cast for the film is seriously impressive as well. Not only is the list impressive but the performances are great. Seth Rogen leads as the main sausage and is t
