Double Review Spectacular- Steve Jobs and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay- Part 2

Image
Man, it's been a while since I've done one of these. For those who don't know, this is basically a normal, topical review but there are two in one post. It's double the content so stop complaining. Anyway, I've gone for two polar opposite films this time in the fast paced, dialogue heavy Steve Jobs and the action packed, young adult oriented Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2. As someone who isn't a fan of Apple and has grown tired of The Hunger Games, it'll be interesting to see how I feel about these films. Right, let's get going with Steve Jobs! Steve Jobs is a movie literally of three parts. It's all about the backstage drama in three separate events: the launch of the Macintosh in 1984, the NeXT computer in 1988 and ends with the iMac in 1998. On paper, I admit that that sounds pretty dull but it all comes together to form what is a genuinely fantastic film. From what I've heard (not being an expert) while these events are genuine, the dra

Top 7- The best films I've never seen

As someone who both takes Film Studies and writes a film blog, I would like to consider myself pretty knowledgeable on films. However, there are some fantastic films that I (currently) haven't seen and really wish I had. This list is dedicated to those films. The films on this list aren't ranked on quality because, as the title suggests, I haven't seen any of them. Instead, they are ranked by how much I want to see them. 7. City of God Foreign films always tend to be pretty hit or miss for me but City of God has had me interested for years. I don't really know what it's about other than it's set in Rio and is about the dark and seedy crime of the favelas. Not only would watching this film increase my spectrum of films that I watch but it also looks dark and fascinating. It's a film I can only imagine to be as essential as it is insightful. 6. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas I've deliberately held back from watching this film for a while beca

Review- Rick and Morty Season 2

I love Community but it's hard to deny that by now, it's on the way out, if not already done. For die hard fans like me, this is terrifying news but we have a replacement. I mean, it's by Dan Harmon so it's basically a continuation but it's absolutely as good as Community have ever been. If you missed the title, I'm talking about the phenomenon that is Rick and Morty. I'm going to run through this like I did my Doctor Who review by doing an episode by episode run down and coming to a final decision at the end about how great this show is. Spoiler, it's amazing, as in, one of the single most creative shows I've ever seen and hilarious to boot. Episode 1: A Rickle in Time The first episode of the series got off to an incredible start with an incredibly imaginative episode. Morty accidentally creates a split in the universe and there are then two parallel universes on screen at once, splitting the screen in half. It's an odd idea but execute

Opinion Piece- We need more (and also less) American shows

The last few years have brought about what is arguably one of the single best periods for TV that we've ever had. There are so many fantastic shows on, be they Breaking Bad, Mad Men or Fargo. But do you spot a theme in these shows? They're all American. Sure, Doctor Who has been keeping mildly relevant and Sherlock is great when it's on but even when we are making quality shows, they're simply not as good as American shows. And we need more of them. American shows are bringing TV to levels we could have never imagined and it's great that we get to see it. But here in the UK, we don't get it quite as easily. Take Orphan Black, the hit cult show starring Tatiana Maslany in a tense, intrigue filled role as the witness to the suicide of someone who looks identical to her. It has been ignored by American critics for the most part and it means that we didn't get it for ages. Sure, we got Season 2 days after it aired in America but Season 3 only just popped up on
