Oscars 2015 Review- Boyhood

Image
Alright, time for another big Oscar contender. Boyhood has been a front runner for Oscar predictions since it came out mid last year and I still haven't seen it. Until now! Now is the time to watch what's been called a masterpiece, Richard Linklater's magnum opus and child labour. Welcome to 12 years a boy. Boyhood is the story of one boy named Mason who grows up. This is basically the entire story. He is a boy, then an awkward teenager then a slightly less awkward teenager. All this has made many critics weep out of joy for how incredible it is. But don't be fooled by all these critics. This is not the masterpiece you've been promised. This is not the best thing ever. This is a decent film but one that's been swamped with largely unworthy acclaim. The actors in this are probably the best thing about the film. The main gimmick that this film relies on (and I do mean relies on) is that it's shot in real time. It takes place over 12 years and was also fi

Oscars 2015 Review- Birdman

So, the Oscar nominations came out and I was generally pretty close to the actual results. I was wrong about David Fincher getting a best director nomination which was fair because I'm just a huge Fincher fanboy. I always slightly knew he wouldn't get it in my heart. But The Lego Movie not being nominated? Come on! It was one of the best films I saw last year and far and away the most magical! Anyway, here's the review of Birdman. The Oscars think it's good, but what do I think? Birdman is the 9 time Oscar nominated film that everyone's been talking about for the last few months. It's the story of Riggan Thompson (played to perfection by Michael Keaton), a washed up Hollywood actor who did a few superhero films back in the nineties and has only been known for that ever since. We see him writing, directing and starring in a play on Broadway and as opening night draws closer, the strain it's taking on him becomes ever clearer. This film has been the film I

Oscars 2015- Let's predict the Oscar nominees 2015

In two days time, the nominations for this year's Oscars will be released. With this release come two questions. Do the Oscars matter? And what will be nominated? The first is debatable but not nearly as much as the possibilities of the nominations are. What's going to be happening on the blog in the run up to the Oscars is basically Oscar fever. First (and what this is), I will attempt to predict some of the nominations for some of the awards based on what I've seen, general buzz and previous nominations. Then it's review after review of some of the big contenders for the main awards until we finally reach Oscar week. At this point, I shall do what literally no one has ever attempted and try to guess what will win the awards. In short, if you don't like the Oscars or Oscar films, maybe steer clear of the blog for a little bit. For everyone else, let the hype begin. Opinion Piece- 2014: The year music lost me

This post is going to make me sound like the oldest person in the Universe, but here goes anyway: I think I officially don't get music anymore. I've been  feeling music's grip on me slipping for a while but this year, when all the videos looking back at the year in music came out, I found it sad. I was listening to all the songs from this year and just thinking "What happened to music?". And I'm not sure if it's just that music is changing too much for me or I'm changing too much for music. This realisation all started in the summer when I visited Ibiza. The place was lovely, as was the company, however it was full of house music. Whether I was in the city or hanging out with my house music loving Godfather, house music was everywhere. And even back home, all it takes is for you to turn the radio on and pretty soon, your ears will be flooded with the mess of sound that is house music. Basically, house music and other similar forms of music are hugely

Top 7- My most anticipated games of 2015

Happy day after day after new years day. If you're anything like me, you're burried in a landfill of games from the steam sale, movies to watch before Oscar season and food. Dear God, why does food taste so good? And why is there so much of it everywhere at this time? Anyway, time to finish looking forward into what is now this year with sweet, sweet video games. 7. Mortal Kombat X In 2014, we had Smash Bros. In 2015, we'll have Mortal Kombat X. Mortal Kombat is famous for being the single most brutal fighting game ever made and it's the reason we have the ESRB rating system. But it's also incredibly fun and one of the best multiplayer experiences out there. That's what makes this new installment so exciting. Huge amounts of gore, all looking crisp and beautiful in 60fps. It has more characters than ever before, looks better than ever before and if it plays better than ever before, we've got an essential local multiplayer game for the ages. 6. Mirrors
