So the Oscars are very soon but no one cares about those. Those last few blog posts have been filler until the real star of the awards circuit, The Razzies. For those who don't know, they're like the Oscars but for celebrating true piles of shit. It's the only awards where Michael Bay, Adam Sandler and anything Tyler Perry does are the favourites. So buckle up, because we're heading on a ride not dissimilar to the rapids but if the rapids was a sewer system under a curry house. Razzie Redeemer Award- Ben Affleck for Gone Girl Let's start with a healthy dose of positivity. This award recognizes people who have won Razzies before but have had a comeback and done some excellent work. For my money, Ben Affleck fits this category perfectly. Welcome to the star studded conclusion of the Oscar coverage here on The Quite Nerdy Blog. Time to round up all the important(ish) categories and get putting in those final predictions. Now, let's get ready to get into the mindset of a bunch of old, white, American dudes and predict us some Academy Awards! Best Animated Film- How to Train Your Dragon 2 Okay, so I haven't seen any of the films on this list. Basically, I was expecting The Lego Movie to just sweep this whole category. So, time for a random guess. How to Train Your Dragons 2 recently won best animated picture at an awards ceremony just for animated films so I guess it's pretty good. I've heard comparisons to The Empire Strikes Back and other similar, great sequels. My brother seems to like this series so I guess this film deserves the award. But given the shock over The Lego Movie, this category could go either way yet. Best Visual Effects- Dawn of the Planet of the Apes This one is a clear win. 2...

This week was meant to be Whiplash but it doesn't appear to be on anyway right now and my cinema of choice is currently under new management. What this all means is that I'm out of my comfort zone with both the cinema and film. I had no desire to see American Sniper until Whiplash fell out of the running and this was the only other accompaniment to Kingsman: The Secret Service (review of that in a few weeks). So, knuckle down for... Well, Bradley Cooper shooting dudes in the face for an hour or two. American Sniper is the film based on a book based on a true story about the most successful sniper in American military history. It's directed by Clint Eastwood, stars beefy hunk Bradley Cooper and has been five time nominated at this year's Oscars. Does it deserve all those nominations? No. It doesn't. Alright, time for another big Oscar contender. Boyhood has been a front runner for Oscar predictions since it came out mid last year and I still haven't seen it. Until now! Now is the time to watch what's been called a masterpiece, Richard Linklater's magnum opus and child labour. Welcome to 12 years a boy. Boyhood is the story of one boy named Mason who grows up. This is basically the entire story. He is a boy, then an awkward teenager then a slightly less awkward teenager. All this has made many critics weep out of joy for how incredible it is. But don't be fooled by all these critics. This is not the masterpiece you've been promised. This is not the best thing ever. This is a decent film but one that's been swamped with largely unworthy acclaim. The actors in this are probably the best thing about the film. So, the Oscar nominations came out and I was generally pretty close to the actual results. I was wrong about David Fincher getting a best director nomination which was fair because I'm just a huge Fincher fanboy. I always slightly knew he wouldn't get it in my heart. In two days time, the nominations for this year's Oscars will be released. With this release come two questions. Do the Oscars matter? And what will be nominated? The first is debatable but not nearly as much as the possibilities of the nominations are. What's going to be happening on the blog in the run up to the Oscars is basically Oscar fever. First (and what this is), I will attempt to predict some of the nominations for some of the awards based on what I've seen, general buzz and previous nominations. Then it's review after review of some of the big contenders for the main awards until we finally reach Oscar week. At this point, I shall do what literally no one has ever attempted and try to guess what will win the awards.
