Double Review Craptacular- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Out of the Shadows and Gods of Egypt

Image
Look, I usually try to be impartial with my reviews and remain open minded until I've seen the film but let's face it, these are not going to be good. The real question I want to answer here is how bad will they both be? First up, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Out of the Shadows (or TMNT 2 as I'll call it for the sake of not breaking my fingers typing) is the follow up to the last reboot of the Turtles franchise and while still not directed by Michael Bay, it certainly has his sticky Producer fingertips all over it. The story seems to follow on from the last one (I was blessed to miss it) with the turtles being the unknown heroes of Manhattan. They live underground but their peace is disturbed by Shredder being bust out of prison by his gang of ninjas who aren't turtles. This leads to the Turtles having to contend with Shredder, his new anthropomorphic Rhino and Warthog buddies Bebop and Rocksteady and the evil alien in a robot sui

Opinion Piece- E3 doesn't matter but I love it anyway

E3 week has gone once more and it gave us some things to love. There was a new God of War, more footage for Recore and Hideo Kojima was revealed to have officially escaped with his life from Konami. There were also very awkward moments, like that Minecraft demo but that's the joy of the show. This said, did much change after E3? Most of the games were leaked and the conferences often felt too long and countless numbers of these games will fall below expectations, probably even some of the ones I think will be shit. So if E3 doesn't matter, why do I love it so much and make the effort to write far too much on it? If only you could read below to find out. It is pretty clear, even to moderately casual viewers of gaming that there is now little purpose to E3. For a start, leaks have ruined most of the joy and surprise I love so much about it. Half of the fun of the conferences is seeing a trailer come up and trying to guess what the game being shown is. An example of that joy cam

A fairly topical matter- E3 Conference rundown

Image
For the uninitiated, E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) is the biggest gaming conference of the year and is where games are announced or more likely, games that have been leaked or delayed get new footage shown. The highlight is the conferences and this year, they take place over two days. Unfortunately, the conferences are usually in the middle of the night but this year, I'm staying up for all of them feeling a bit ill and getting round to them late and running through them and discussing my thoughts on what was shown and how in order of release, starting with the EA conference from the 12th and ending with Sony on the early hours of the 14th. I'm going through all the conferences as the games were shown and being my usual cynical self. I'm sure this can only go well. The EA Conference I didn't have my hopes up here because EA are shits and my expectations were met. For a start, they decided to do two conferences, one from LA and one from London but that slowe

Double Review Spectacular - Warcraft and The Nice Guys

Image
Yes, another double review spectacular so soon. Four movies in two weeks which is either great news if you actually enjoy reading the blog or is awful if you're still hate reading it. Regardless, this week we review two films, one of which I'm very interested in, the other of which I'm incredibly excited to see because it looks like exactly my kind of film. See if you can guess which is which out of Warcraft and The Nice Guys. Read the Warcraft review first and see if you can work it out after that. I want to start by making sure my allegiances to this film are clear. I'm not a huge fan of fantasy films and despite being a fan of video games, I've never played any games in the Warcraft universe. My only interest in this film was my love for Duncan Jones and I have been quietly pessimistic that the studio involvement would damage his tight and smooth directing style. Safe to say, it has not but I'll get to that. The story is pretty standard high fantasy stuf
