Top 7- Films that are going to get me through my exams

Exam season is coming unnervingly close and I'm slowly dissapearing into a shelter to revise. During that time, I would like to stay sane and will do so by watching films. Lots of films, whenever I have time. I want to make that time special and therefore, I will choose films that will get me through my exams. Criteria: they must either be out in cinemas in this time, have good messages about the world and all that or just be so funny and joyous that they distract me from the crippling pain revision puts on me. I'm not ranking them based on how good they are, more on how much they'll help me in whatever way it is.

7. American Beauty

This may not seem like a good choice at first glance but look closer. Not only is the film a cinematic masterpiece that I could sit and appreciate for hours on end, it's also a testament to the beauty of life. I know it's a film that oozes cynicism, features adultery and ends in death but that isn't the point. The point is, a man discovers that he's stopped living life and decides to actually appreciate the world he inhabits. For a film that is often sad, the message here is uplifting: look closer, appreciate the little bits of beauty in life because it's short but beautiful. That is what I will keep telling myself in the exam hall or with revision in hand: life is beautiful, learn to appreciate it's nuances.

6. Hot Fuzz

I consider Hot Fuzz one of my single favourite movies so it's very presence on a screen near me would make me smile. Aside from being a favourite of mine, there is also the fact that this film is full of top quality action and humour. The film is very funny and starts off as an amusing parody of 90s action films like Point Break. This makes it a light and amusing start and great fun. Later on though, it becomes a fantastic action film and overtakes most of the films it parodies, giving some superb action film escapism.

5. Captain America: Civil War

Civil War comes out pretty close to my exam period and I'm excited to see how it plays out. Sure, it's pretty much guaranteed that it will be good but how good? Going to the cinema for an action packed, relentless 2 and a half hours is going to be good regardless but if this film is anywhere near as good as the last Captain America film, there will be intrigue, well written characters and superbly directed action. We all know this film is going to be worth the time and that's good. It's nice to have some certainty at this time.

4. Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy is still the best Marvel movie that has been released and that's because it is joyous. Marvel have excelled in making many lovable and exciting movies like Iron Man or Ant Man but for me, this takes it. Chris Pratt is cool and easy to like, the action is great fun and the soundtrack is superb. Absolutely everyone who saw this movie had a great time and it's also the only Marvel film I own on blu-ray so that makes it an easy pick. If I want to be hooked on a feeling (in a good way), I'll turn to the Guardians of the Galaxy.

3. Inside Out

This movie is on here for a mix of all the reasons films are on here. For a start, this was one of my single favourite films of last year and is even my favourite Pixar film, which is a real compliment. It's also the most original film in years and takes joy (get it?) in being utterly delightful and looking incredible. The film is also incredibly funny and will make me smile throughout the film every time. Possibly most importantly though, this film tells us that it's okay to be sad sometimes. Exams suck and sometimes, that's just something you have to deal with. Inside Out is here to tell us that you can be sad, you can be happy and that's all cool because humans are weird and confusing.

2. Airplane

People who have managed to read my blog for it's duration without falling asleep halfway through every post will know that I consider Airplane to be the single funniest movie ever made. It's second for a reason and we'll get to that but for now, let's appreciate the art of stupidity that this film creates. I watch this film over and over again and every time, I see something new and hilarious and it makes me hurt with laughter. It's just going to be nice to hurt for a reason other than the weight of exams.

1. Wet Hot American Summer

Some of you are going to have no idea what this film is or why it's here so I'll explain why. This movie is weird in all the ways I love. I mean, the premise is about a bunch of 30 year olds playing teenagers, the premise alone is hilarious! The rest of the movie holds up that high standard of hilarity and oddity. The main reason it's at number 1 though is it's link to summer. It's set in summer and makes me yearn for that time of care free joy. Admittedly, I don't plan on getting addicted to heroin or almost being crushed by the SpaceLab but the heart is there. Plus, I watched this movie and its TV prequel on repeat in summer, more than any other film or TV show so it will forever be my summer movie. The need for that time is pretty much the one thing that'll get me through exams and that's why it's this movie.
