Review- Community Season 6 or Intro to Reviewing of Cult Shows and Their Sixth Seasons

Oh Community. We have a very tricky relationship. First you make me fall completely head over heels with you through seasons 1 through 3. Then we hit that rough patch of season 4 and it felt like it could all end. After that, I thought we could go back to normal with season 5 and for a while, it was good. But your parents said we couldn't meet up again and cancelled the relationship. All I could do to console myself was look at the old videos of the fun we had together and mourn. And then, out of the blue, you came back. Sure, the way you turned up was odd but you were back and as good as you'd ever been. So give me your hands, show me the door. I can not stand, to wait anymore. Somebody said, be what you be. We could be old and cold and dead on the street. But I love you more than words can say. I can't count the reasons I should stay.

Let me start this review by saying this: thank you Yahoo. You brought Community back from the dead when NBC weren't willing to carry it any further and on behalf of all the fans, thank you for keeping it alive. Just have the respect to help fund the movie and then give us closure, avoiding turning Community into Dexter and dragging it out until we hate everything about it. Back to the review. Community season 6 is the continuation of my favourite show except now it's online and we have two new cast members. Other than that, same old Community, same charm and humour that us few fans came to love. And let me guarantee you, Community is just as good as it's ever been.

A show as crazy as Community doesn't deserve a regular review so I'm just going to go crazy and review each episode separately. Let Basic Intro to Reviews begin!

Episode 1: Ladders
The opener of this season had one job: show the world that Community is as great as it's ever been. Fortunately for us, it performed that job exceptionally. It was about Jeff attempting to stay normal for new character Frankie but eventually letting her down and descending into a series of montages and homages. It was classic Community with enough new to show us that it was growing up

Episode 2: Lawnmower Maintenance and Postnatal Care
An interesting episode here. On one side, the hilarious story of the Dean getting lost in virtual reality and Jeff hiring Keith David to bring him back, leading to David's character Elroy becoming a regular. Unfortunately, there was also the weaker B story of meeting Britta's parents which did no good for making Britta's character. One of the weaker episodes.

Episode 3: Basic Crisis Room Decorum
Did Greendale give a degree to a dog? That's the question that powers this episode and it's an odd but hilarious one. It's a classic episode that also includes our old rivals City College. As well as that, it has an oddball end credits moment that is unlike anything we've ever really seen.

Episode 4:  Queer Studies and Advanced Waxing
Another bizarre episode in the already odd sixth season with two equally great plotlines. The Dean has to come out as gay in order to make the school look more diverse and ends up giving us the song "Gay Dean" a blatant rip off loving adaptation of the Dolly Parton song Jolene. Plotline two focuses on another casual rip off a tribute to Whiplash as Chang is bullied into becoming the best Mr Miyagi in a stage adaptation of The Karate Kid. One of my favourite episodes of the series, maybe even the whole show.

Episode 5: Laws of Robotics and Party Rights
A weaker episode here as in an attempt to make the school more profitable, prisoners are allowed to enroll through mobile tablets. Also, Britta tries to throw a party. Not much to say here other than neither plot really pays off. A weak episode.

Episode 6: Basic Email Security
Back on form here as (in a parody of Sony's hacks) the emails of staff and student are held and are threatened public release if they let racist comedian Gupta Gupti Gupta perform at the College. Tensions ride high and it all results in a final stand off as everyone airs all of the dirty laundry brought up by the emails. A hilarious episode that brings the rest of the season back on track.

Episode 7: Advanced Safety Features
If nothing else, this episode is memorable for bringing the return of Subway/Rick, Britta's ex-boyfriend. They spend the episode trying to subliminally sell Honda's to students and it works perfectly on poor old Dean. As a bonus, Chang's powerpoint scene is one of the funniest moments of the whole show, that had me crying with laughter. An episode that's swift, efficient and cheap, just like the new Honda Fit.

Episode 8: Intro to Recycled Cinema
When Chang becomes famous, Abed is left to try and finish a film he was starring in but using only the scenes Chang already filmed. Cheesy B movie acting, editing and CGI ensue. It's exactly what makes Community great and haaaaaaaaaaaaaam gurl, if it isn't a great episode. It also has Alison Brie looking better than usual, an impressive feat, truly.

Episode 9: Grifting 101
Yeah, this was the worst episode of the series. It sadly wasted the talent of the excellent Matt Berry and the setup of the gang grifting a grifting teacher. Unfortunately, it just doesn't really work. If you were to skip one episode this series, it's this one.

Episode 10: Basic RV Repair and Palmistry
In any other show, an opening that features an RV crashing on a mountain road with a giant fist on the roof would be totally out of place. On Community, it's all par for the course. It gives us an episode that tops some of the meta heights Community reaches and has Britta, Frankie and Abed from the future. An odd but underrated episode with some hilarious moments involving a man and his giant watch.

Episode 11: Modern Espionage
It's Paintball! We haven't had a solid paintball episode since season 2 but this episode changes that as an homage to the spy film genre. An underground paintball game erupts and the gang try to keep it under wraps while taking down the silver phantom. And hey, the Russo brothers even take time to spoof a scene from their own film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier in the most Community way. An episode that can go down as a truly great one.

Episode 12: Wedding Videography
An episode that proves that even people who are as much of a mess ass Garrett are can find love as Abed documents the proposal and big day on film. There's a shock twist involved and a surprisingly deep and heartfelt speech from Chang that will change your entire view of him as a character. This is an episode that, while revisiting the classic documentary format, is a generally original, funny and emotional episode. It's everything you want from the perfect Community episode.

Episode 13: Emotional Consequences of Broadcast Television
If this is the last episode of the show, it's a deserved one. It manages to not only be the single most meta episode of TV I've ever seen but also one of the most emotional. Put simply, it's about the gang pitching what they'd do for season 7. The ideas range from stupid to hysterical to pure ego fuel, like Jeff's plan to have a study group of hot redheads. There's also a twist or two and a moment that mosst fans have been craving. I won't ruin it but if you're a fan of the show, this moment will warm your heart.

Community Season 6. It's just what we wanted and deserved. It's a mix of old tropes and new ideas that blend perfectly to restore my favourite show to it's previous glory. Community is just as good as it's ever been and if there's a movie, I will have no choice but to see it as much as I've watched this show (it's about 4 or 5 times). I love this show and I'll be damned if this isn't an incredibly biased review but for me, Community Season 6 gets the perfect
